[WD16] Crash on Ctrl Shift W

Startbeitrag von Al am 19.06.2011 00:14

Hello All

I can crash Windev reasonably consistently by using Ctrl Shift W.

As an example of the extent of my paranoia about the stability of the Windev IDE, I have over the years got into the habit of clicking Alt S to save everything followed by Ctrl Shift W to close everything and write it back to disk. I do this procedure about every 10 minutes. This is in addition to allowing Windev to save every 5 minutes and force a buffer flush.

In WD16 if you get the timing wrong and click Ctrl Shift W before the Alt S has finished then Windev crashes. This of course is followed by a long coffe break while it redeclares and recompiles everything before you can get back to work.

I can crash WD16 if I do anything while it's loading for example. If I start WD16 and open IE9 or Outlook at the same time - crash!!

It seems if WD is processing "anything" and you ask it to do something else - crash!!

I'll try your's later and add it to my list?!

Have you reported this to PCS? In fact I wonder if any of these "little annoyances" are being reported? I know I'm guilty of "putting up with them" and hoping they get reported :(

Hello Darren

These days I only bother to report stuff when I exceed my frustration level. I always gets a response and then nothing.

I am convinced that no-one at PCSoft actually develops real worl programs using their own tool. If they did all the little annoyances, that we put up with because on balance there is nothing else quite as good as Windev, would be fixed in a couple of weeks, because it would drive them as crazy as it does to us!

Yes - In simple terms, WD is BIG, some projects can be BIG and there's the seemingly infinitesimal configurations of PC's nowerdays - I wouldn't want to be a PCS support person!

I was going to reply about the potential frustration and (often) futility of sending a bug report to PCS, but I didn't want to sound too negative?!

Hi Al,

no WD16 crashes at all, nor during opening WD and IE9, nor when I click Ctrl-Shift-W.

Xavier / Al,

I think that comes under the "seemingly infinitesimal configurations of PC's nowerdays" category? ;)

But seriously, it seems to me that whatever Windows Service handles the multi-streaming of threads may be at fault in our case?

Hi Darren,

I can only advise what Al already wrote in his posting "[WD16] Windev speed when developing". Keep your development environment as clean as possible. My dev-computer has only the WX-software, Office, FTP-client, Teamviewer, anti-virus soft and a few other tools (eg. text/hex editor) and that's it.

Ctrl-Shift-W works fine for me.

von DarrenF - am 20.06.2011 23:14
Hello Guys,

Yes it works for me also but every now and again it doesn't. My assumption is that it hasn't finished doing all the saves from the Alt S when I press CtlShift W. I tend to have a bout 10-15 windows open at anyone time, so the Alt S saves them prior to the Ctrl Shft W.

The same will occur sometimes if you try and click on items that turn up in the search before it has finished. although there has been some work done on the search. It is much better in V16 than it was in V14.

I posted my experiences just to make others aware of the possibility .
