Connection with FITdoc (or other DMS)

Startbeitrag von NadineNo am 14.05.2012 08:22

I'm trying to figure out how to make a connection with the DMS (Document Management System) FITdoc. The Windev application will be the 'frontend' of the application, while the documents will be stored in the DMS.

It should be possible to add, move, delete (view) documents in the Windev application but the modifications must be applyed in FITdoc.

How do I make the connection:
-in Windev
-in FITdoc
- in both?
- and how does it works?

Where can I find information/examples about this kind of applications? ( I'm a newbie in programming)

I donnot know what fitdoc is? Is it an rdms ( relational database management system ) Like Mssql/ mysql ? Or is it some kind of programm that uses a database?

Since you are a newbie
Windev is shipped with a database engine called hyperfile sqland it is free. However You can use án other db if you want.

You need to build a connection string where you define the following:
Provider // this is the dbengine

How ever it is good praktise to use hyperfileSQL when you deverlop your app. When installing you app ,define the connection to db with inifile.

In the windev solutions Forum ( this website) there are complete projects availeble for download.

Hi Al,

FitDoc is a document management system, for storing all kinds of documents like excel, word, pictures,... It's not a database like MS SQL, Oracle or Hyperfile where you can save data in tables. I don't know if you can call it a database: you don't store data but you do store whole documents.

I've already learned that communication between Windev and Fitdoc goes with specified xml-files. Atleast, according to the software company that handles fitdoc. (Fitdoc is written in Windev)

Than you problebly have more succes asking fitdoc people.
If you have found how it works I.( and a few more users of this forum ) like to know how. Maybe you can post somthing on the windev solutions forum.

For now I store documents in directories ( on disk ) created for the clients.

I'll figure it out, make a sort tutorial, post it on the solution forum and then give you all shout.

Anyway thanks for answering.

Who supplies FITdoc, do they have web site?

A Google search returns nothing useful - mainly gyms and rock groups

von DerekT - am 15.05.2012 07:56
Hi DerekT,

FITdoc is from the Belgian company "Fit". It's a Belgian company with 2 kinds of software and one of them is a document management system (FITdoc) for small and medium company's. For more information look at their website: www.fit.be

The website is only in Dutch. I hope you can speak Dutch :)

The problem with FITdoc is that it's so little used, you can't find information. And developing in Windev is also rather difficult for newbies since you only can find information on this forum and the tutorial.

According to the company FIT, the communication between fitdoc and Windev must proceed via xml with a specified pattern.

Hi, try to get in contact with Geert ( Debruyne )
He is active on this forum as well every now and then.
He gave me some information about OCR and scanning (not exactly windev related) a while ago and was very helpfull.

@Arie: I'll give it a go!

Forgot to mention: he's employee of FITdoc - or maybe even director/owner - I'm not sure

von Arie - am 15.05.2012 09:35
I know... First some deliberation with my PL.

You can find more information on our new website: www.fitdoc.be

Now that you have replied here. Can you tell as to what are you using in backend for storing data. Is is HF or something else?

I am just curious to know.

we just released the new website on our product FITdoc, in Dutch, English version is coming next month. Anyone wanting to have info in English (manuals, integrations,...) just contact me.

Very important => for Windev-developers, we have a component availabel that lets you integrate our solutions into your own software (with internal windows and included classes).
Furthermore, our solution provides everything you can expect from a DMS: archiving, fast searching (even on document content), dynamic erp-connections, dynamic workflow definitions, versioning, integration manager, ...

To store all of the data we have two options: HF/CS or UBD/400 (mostly used by AS/400-professionals who do not want anything else than and AS/400-database.
We can move to MS-SQL as well, but i wonder if anyons with acces to HF/CS would do that?

Hello everyone...

We have just released the English version of our website, concerning our document management:
http://www.fitdoc.be/UK/Home.awp or www.fitdoc.be and choose ‘E’ on top right…

Any questions/remarks? Do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
