[WB] Timeout and Filedisplay

Startbeitrag von Michael Drechsel am 21.11.2012 12:51

Hi Webdevers,

if you choose a small timeout value to avoid large numbers of unused sessions at your application server you have a problem with "filedisplay" (Download)

If the users download a large file they run into a timeout after the download because "filedisplay" doesn´t fresh up the connection during the download.

A direct download through a link is not possible because I don´t want that the user can guess a url.

Any ideas to enable large downloads with a small connection timeout ?

Antworten:

did you try with one timer executing one empty server procedure thru AJAXExecuteAsynchronous

Hi Michael,

For that reason I set the timeout to 5 minutes and the timer to 4 minutes.
I felt that too small a timeout could lead to these kind of problems.
Most mailings, uploads and filedisplay should be finished within 5 minutes.
Also I'm reluctant to rely too heavy on the timer in case something goes wrong with the timer.
In my experience Webdev is not always very predictable in it's behaviour.

Piet

Hi Piet,

our uploads and downloads are different, the largest have up to 1,5 GB per file.

That means with a poor internet line up to 60 min ore more ...

It's pcSoft bug but they haven't fixed it even in wb17 as I got successfully upload/download a 4GB file but the timeout is still SHOWN even I changed IIS timeout/
wb timeout, hopeless...

@ Piet,

what happens if the user leave the site during the download ? Then no timer is active and the session is killed by webdev application server or not ?

If I am right I watch that the upload process itself refresh the session every 3 minutes. So it must be a bug or a forgotten feature. Calling the PC Support ends probably with the famous last words ... ("We give the problem to our developers")

Hi Michael,

They say in the help that for a large download they advise a link.
So that's probably the reply you'll get when reporting this issue.
Well, please report it anyway.

Piet
