Forum Traffic Seems Light

Startbeitrag von Clyde Tilley.pcs.crosspost am 28.11.2012 08:11

I was investigating WinDev 17 & decided to check out the forums to see what the traffic level is like (you know, community support). I was surprised to see how few questions are getting answered. Is there a more active user community somewhere that supports WinDev in English or is this representative of the lack of English speaking support for this product?

Feedback would be appreciated.

I would disagree - in my experience the majority of requests on here get a response.
Not all, of course, get a definitive resolution but in those cases a suggestion of where to look may well be offered.

Unfortunately not all requesters respond to say whether the suggestion offered was successful, to give their solution to the issue or even offer a polite thank you so the success rate is hard to judge.

The key, as with all forums, is to format your question in a way that people can understand what the problem is.

Before writing us off I would suggest you post your issues on here - if you cannot get the help you require then, unlike now, you may be justified in any criticism you may want to make.

Hi Clyde,

what did you expect? What does it say about the product? Less postings = less troubles.
We're answering a crosspost on forum http://27130.foren.mysnip.de/list.php?27131

Kind regards,

Clyde,

I don't use the forum as much now as I used to since I switched to Mac. However I used it for a number of years and found nothing but helpful people who either solved my problems or pointed me in the right direction.

Just remember, everyone on the forum is just like you and I in that they are at different stages in their understanding of the products but they all seem extremely selfless and willing to assist if at all possible.

As Guenter says - give it a go and then make up your mind.

Hi,

My first mistakes is when im using Wx product but i dont know there is a forum for Wx.
After knowing this forum and very much friends then i can gain my knowledge and solving a lot of problem.
You have to understand that all of them also have job to do.
If you consider fast and easy job, there's also a lot of Wx professional that can handle your job easily. Just pay for that.
Now im very happy coz investment for Wx return very good profit.

Just my little opinion.

Thanks a lot all.

Like Guenter says, good product, fewer questions. I have noticed though that it seems we are getting more WB and to a lesser extent WM questions these days.

The odd reason for fewer answers is that PCSoft rather answer the same question many times through their free technical support than participating in their own forum.

Piet

Hi Clyde,

Many of us (:-)) can also use the Search function of this forum. Very often a problem gets its answer in some old posting, so it is not necessary to repeat it.

Hey Clyde -

I've found several sources of information, including the one Olivier indicated, but for the most part I have the same reaction as you. I've seen questions that lead me to believe my English-only handicap may be a factor as well.

I have these bookmarked and check on them pretty regularly -

Thanks Olivier & thx Guy - wow! I wasn't expecting that much info! So, Guy, if I may ask, have you yet used the product in production and how has the community support been on the sites that you have found? I was investigating using HyperSQL & WinDev to convert off of an older THEOS multi-user system, so was really curious about performance (it would only have about 15 users, but THEOS is very responsive, even when we had up to 50 users at one time).

I appreciate any info you could pass my way.

And thx again for all the links!

Hi Clyde

Hyperfile cs can handle 50 users easily. It is a professional platform. Apps made with windev are incredibly stable as well.

You will not regert using it

Allard

Hello Clyde

The PCSoft forums only have traffic because they crosspost to and from the http://27130.foren.mysnip.de/list.php?27131 forum. Most newbies start off there and then quickly switch over to the mysnip forum.

The PCSoft forum is a moderated forum, so you may not get all the answers and there may be a delay in getting answers.

The PCSoft forum would be very useful if, as was suggested earlier, it was supported by PCSoft tech support staff, but unfortunately it is not.

Regards
Al

Hi Clyde -
I'm using Windev.Mobile-17 to develop an Android application to allow "data entry" on a smart-phone, which will mesh with a windows based application. If you care, the Windows app is available zt ( http://www.weloop.com/HATS.html ) At this point I'm muddling my way through, in most instances the "problems" I've encountered are mostly based on the "I am my own worst enemy" situation.

I read/worked my way through most of the tutorial, but being am impatient kinda-guy it quickly moved on to my application with a lot of reference to the Help.document, at it is pretty good. I don't know enough to comment on a "robust multi-user" application, but if I were to bet, I'd bet it's do-able. One of my BIG hurtles is the file-handing which is due to my "old dogs struggle with new tricks" situation.

I've spent enough time on the forums to believe it can be done. I tend to be a "lurker" on forums and learn a lot by experimentation. I'm retired and what I work on is the fun-stuff, having spent 40 years in the IBM mid-range world and dabbling in some Windows-based stuff. Andy's comment about the Skype-group is probably a good one, he and Dave Harms have been long-time players in my history and I suspect there is a wealth of information there.

Hope that helps.
Guy
