[WD16] Table Breaks - I know the secret

Startbeitrag von Al am 21.05.2013 14:37

Hello All

Table Breaks - in V16 are only half finished and unless you know the secret, they are impossible to code. If you create a break, save it and do not imediately insert the statics in the header and footer, the chance is gone and if you try to insert them later on or indeed try to add an extra one later on, they do not register with the table break so it ignores them or give errors when you reference them.

The secret is to have all the statics already created and sitting in the window. Open the table, create the table breaks and drag the statics into the break lines. Check in the GUI section of each static that you can see the option "In a break, Display" If you can't see that option then the break does not think the static belongs to it. The only recourse then is to delete the breaks and start again. If you try to add a static later on, you are out of luck, you have to delete everything and start again.

I hope this has been fixed in V18

Hi Al,

Well I have used the table breaks in the past but had no problems with it??

However in my app I deleted it and used the treeviewtable control. Way faster!! you can programm it just the way you want.

In an other app I used the treeview and a separate table . I was more work I programmed the table to change on behalf of the selections made in the treeview. it worked fine , just as I wanted and it was very fast as well.

So my opinion on the table with breaks in it is that is is a 5gl feature that can be implemented with little to no coding ,but it is what it is. If you want the breaks to be closed it gets very slow And it is not as good looking as a treeviewtable. And if you want things to go different like using indirection to modify the table columns hmm not possible
