[WB] cleaning diskspace on server

Startbeitrag von Piet van Zanten am 30.09.2013 14:28

I noticed that in the directories of my websites there are lots of unused images and other files.
It appears that the res files from older versions don't get removed when deploying a new version.
Each deployed update adds new files to your site, without removing unused ones.

I had a site using 263 MB for 57254 files.
After manually cleaning and deploying I had 33MB for 2369 files left.
A considerable waste of disk space.

Hi Piet,

I deleted the "res"-map and repaired my project. The result was 2/3 of the files in the map
were gone. Indeed a significant waste of diskspace.

Best regards,

Hi Aad,

Don't forget to do the same on the deployed site.
I found another way to save diskspace:
If you use buttons based on an svg image Webdev creates two images in the res folder, one for each state.
Webdev uses a smart way to store these images, if the size is the same, it only creates two images for all buttons that have this size.
So if you have buttons with a width of 89, 90 and 91 pixels it creates 6 images.(assuming the height is always the same)
If you normalize the size to 90 it only creates 2 images.
