[WB18] Very simple WB question

Startbeitrag von DarrenF am 03.10.2013 23:47

Hi,

I'm just starting out with WB18 and started with the tutorial to get a feel for the WB screen/page and code editors, so this is a very basic question/scenario...

I have a new page and let's say I click on the small down arrow beneath "Edit" on the ribbon - I then select Date and place the Date control on the window.

Q: Why does WB place a totally minimised Static control called (something like) "STC_STYLES_18 [A30]" immediately to the left of the actual Date control called EDT_Date?

What is it? What's it for? Do I need it?

If I click on the main option part (not the down arrow) of the Edit option and drag that basic edit control onto the window, WB doesn't place a minimised STC control to the left

Hi Darren

I have never seen such a behavior (but also, I do not use the ribbon - CTRL-SHIFT-R is my FRIEND!)... And except if you are dropping a supercontrol, each field is stand alone, so I'll put my money on a ribbon bug

Best regards

Hi Fabrice,

Thanks for taking the time, but no, it's not a ribbon bug - if I switch to the old style menu, the problem is the same!

The issue is very easily reproduce - WB18 tutorial page 41, open the "WW_My_First_Pages" project and drag and drop a Date control as described OR you can switch over to the old style menu, click the little white down arrow, select the date control & drag and drop it onto the window and there it is - a Date control and as you can see, there's a cluster of markers very close together which are the STC control as described above:

Another way to see the effect is in the project explorer, so here immediately before the Date control is dropped on the page:

...and immediately after the single Date control is dropped on the page:

I'd be interested if someone could quickly try it and; a) See if they experience the same effect and/or b) Let me know why it's happening?

Maybe it's a Project "option" of some kind, but what, and where is it set?

Thanks...

Hi Darren,

I have the same experience, it happens for other preset types e.g. statics too.
No idea why.

Regards,
Piet

Hi Darren

I now see the same thing, and I have no idea what is going on... The reason why it never happened to me is that I never click on the drop down arrow, just on the regular button...

I then set the standard edit filed as a date field by changing its settings in the seven tab window. In which case, no strange static appears...

It seems to me that it IS a bug and should be sent to PCSoft

Best regards

Thanks guys - I thought it might have been a setting buried in the "Styles" area or some option I'm not aware of!

Anyhow - I've sent it off to PCS :xcool:

Hi - I don't have WB18 and this may be incorrect...but isn't the static control you're referring to just the label ("date")?

In HTML the "input" type does not have a corresponding label. You have to add that separately which WB is probably doing as a static control so it can render the HTML properly.

Hi Chris,

No, it's a completely separate control. As you can see from the cluster of small "resize" blocks, it's automatically minimised in my screen cap - it's stuck to the Edit control as you drag and drop it. Once "dropped", onto the web page it's possible to expand it just like a normal Static control.

I've since had a response from PCS support, they agree it's a bug that they have also encountered and it's gone to their developers. :spos:

Maybe it'll be fixed in WB28? ;)
