[WD16] Graphics supplied are not useable

Startbeitrag von Al am 27.10.2013 01:23

Hello All

Is anyone else having problems using the graphics/clip art supplied with Windev ?

The problem is that over the last few years the backgrounds on the clipart are no longer magenta which is a solid colour but are varying shades of black, which is not being made transparent by selecting transparent as "Top left Pixel" and even if it was, black is not a good colour to use as a transparent background because it is quite often used elsewhere as a normal colour within a graphic so it leave holes in the graphic where the black becomes transparent in places where it should not.

This has annoyed me for awhile but after having to change the backgrounds on a few graphic items today from shades of black to magenta I decided to post to see if anyone else see this as a problem or has a solution.

Hi Al,

Since jpeg and bmp files don't support transparency WX has the transparency options.
Because .png images do support transparency there's no need to define a transparent color, so since I mostly use png images this is no problem for me.
I'm assuming that's the reason why these more recent images no longer have a transparent color.

Hello Piet

thanks for the reply I didn't know about the transparency in png type files.
Many of the graphic clipart files in WIndev have a black background or border around them and that is what I am trying to get rid of. The option to use the left hand top pixel as the transparency colur doesn't work because the "black" is not a solid colour like magenta but is many shades of black and by selecting black as the transparency colour, it removes legitimate black from the rest of the graphic.

Hi Al

Are you sure that the border and background are part of the picture ?
My guess is that they are Border/Background of the image control instead.
Try opening the image controls description, select Style, select Border/Background and set both color's as Undefined. (I'm on WX18 so I hope you can find the same in WX16)

Best regards

Hi Al,

Saving the jpeg and bmp type of files will indeed substitute transparency to black.
After selecting an image in the catalog, in the bottom left corner you can fill in the name of the file and the extension.
If you store the image as png, then it will be transparent without further need of defining top left pixel or transparent color.
Much easier.

Hello Viggo

Thanks for the reply, but Piet has set me straight, its all in the format.

Hello Piet

Thanks for following up on my query. You are correct, the trick is to save in png format and the black background disappears.
