[WB18] stored procedures

Startbeitrag von Piet van Zanten am 30.11.2013 14:51

I'm testing some simple stored procedures to get the hang of it.
I get many internal errors when testing and Webdev hanging.
Also modifications in code sometimes don't get applied when testing.
My purpose is to create one or more scheduled procedures to do maintenance on several databases.

My questions to the forum:
What is your experience regarding scheduled procedures?
Are they reliable?
Is it worth the effort, wouldn't be easier to just run a Windev program (service) on my server that does the required tasks?

I created a few triggers in a WD14 project. Using wdmodfic to get them into my database wasn't very stable. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not (I mean when installing at several client sides).
I finally managed to get it done by code, using HRefreshSet and HDescribeServerTrigger .

A while ago I moved this project to WD17. Now it is even worse. Only 2 of the 8 triggers are created by my code. All others throw an error.
I tried to recreate everything from scratch (to avoid upgrade issues). No go.

I ended up overriding HAdd/HModify and use these as a kind of "trigger".

So to me the triggers are not stable!

Hi Arie,

Thanks for your reply.
My own experiences already made me choose for a service created with Windev.
Much easier to debug and it runs fine on my server for several days now.
It just checks the online status of my web users against a datetime stored in the user file of each database.
The datetime gets refreshed by the Webdev site by a timer and keeps the session alive at the same time.
If the user forgets to log out the online status will be cleared by the service once expired.
For less frequent tasks I will create a regular Windev executable that will run under Windows scheduler once a day.
