WebDev - Can I copy a table from analysis and use in another Project?

Startbeitrag von Joel am 01.03.2014 02:56

Hi there -

I use WebDev 15. Can I copy a table from one project's analysis and paste it into another project's analysis and communicate with the actual table file without a problem? I don't want to share the entire analysis from the other project - just one table will be common to both projects.

Yes, you can! Open both projects and their analysis. Just select the file to copy, do a right-click and select 'copy' (or simply do a Ctrl-C) and put the other analysis in focus and do a Ctrl-V there. You can even copy a full analysis this way! Switch to 10% zoom-factor, do a lasso-select and Ctrl-C, move over to the other analysis, do a Ctrl-V there and voilà, the whole analysis is copied. Only downside of this procedure is that you don't get the layout over to the other project. You have to reorder the mess in order to make it a respectable analysis again. There is another way for copying a full analysis (same name) to another project: just copy the analysis-directory and and the .wdd file over to the other project. This way even the structure of the analysis is preserved.

Hi Joel

yes you can...

However, remember that as soon as you make a copy, the two descriptions are distinct...

This means that if you do a change in one of the analysis, you 'll have to manually do the exact same change in the second (or redo the copy of the table)...

This is a problem that you do not have with a webservice, where the "code in the middle" can make the translation for you

Best regards

Hi Fabrice. Is the technique you showed me considered a "webservice"? Thanks!

Hi Joel

yes it is... It's a REST like webservice

Best regards

Ok Fabrice - Thanks. I'll give it a shot - I'm just not very good at handling strings, tearing them apart, etc. I guess I'll just have to learn. I guess this points to the fact that I'm not really a programmer!

Be well and thanks -

You too Guenter!

Oh - and I think it's ExtractString that I need to use to pull it apart...
