why regedit is changed when I do repair installation sometimes?

Startbeitrag von Jenny.pcs.crosspost am 30.07.2009 13:43

When I install my application, Windev itself will add keys in my regedit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software to save some infomation. From my program, I also add or modify some keys to my regedit to keep some infos. When I install my application again(I use install shield to make install exe, here I choose repair option). Those keys usually are not overwritten or deleted, but sometimes it does! That means my users will lose a lot of configurations! It happens occasionally on local installation or termainal service installation. It seems there is no certain pattern.

Does anybody have ideas about how it happens and what I should go to check? Thanks.

Jenny

Jenny,
I faced the same problem some time ago. I'm using WD-installer. So maybe it's a "thing behind the scene" in the application itself.
I changed the way the userconfiguration is used via InitParameter(paramString,sMySettings) to use a string instead of the (default) registry. And store this string in my user-table in the database. Bug "solved".

Hi, Arie:

Althought your reply is on wrong place, I read it and this is a good solution. Thank you.
