WD optimizing HFCS

Startbeitrag von Piet van Zanten am 08.08.2009 10:27

Hi All,

What's best practice when seeking a single unique record using hfcs?
At first sight I thought it makes no difference using hreadseekfirst on the file directly or using a query, because I assume network traffic will be the same. However I'm not sure that in case of a hreadseekfirst the entire index file isn't transferred to the local cache.

Should I always uses queries for best performance or will a simple hreadseekfirst do the trick too?

Regards,
Piet

Hi Piet...

PCSoft advises - for speed purpose -(in the help, so you can read more
details about it) to use queries when you are looking for several
records, hreadseekxxx when you are looking for one only, and
hadd/hmodify/hdelete for write accesses...

Best regards

Hi Fabrice,

I looked in the Help for optimizing but could not find anything on this specific subject.
Thanks for your help.

Piet
