[WD19] HFSQL C/S: Can't add new files to the server.[SOLVED]

Startbeitrag von Curtis am 19.03.2015 13:57

Every time I create a new File, I get an error when trying to view it with WDMap saying it can't find the file. Then I snoop around in HFSQL and realize the file is not on the server. Anyone come across this issue?

Hi Curtis,

If you create a new file description in the analysis, this is not created in the database right after. You need to do so by programming with HCreationIfNotFound() or when "building" the new analysis to run the wizard to update the databases it knows about automatically. Once done, the file is available in the database. They are two separate things.

Where can I find this update database wizard? Generation?

Edit: I've already added plenty of tables. I have no idea why this is happening now.

Hi Curtis,

Check right there: http://doc.windev.com/en-US/?2011012&name=generating_the_analysis#how_proceed_ELTPARAGRAPHE000085

Re: [WD19] HFSQL C/S: Can't add new files to the server.

I've done that plenty of times. When I do it never finds the new file after specifying search locations. It should show the new file right?

Hi,

you could try to add a table with direct access to this file. After configuring this table with the wizard WD adds the file to the database.

Markus! It worked after I did that and ran the program. Thank you!

But will I run into this problem the next time I add a file? This is a really jankety workaround. Hmmmm. I hope I find the culprit before I add my next file.

Re: [WD19] HFSQL C/S: Can't add new files to the server.

Hi Curtis,

Hum, I never had problems with that ... In the "Analysis" menu, beside the "Generate" button (red/white flag) you have a "Synchronize" drop-down button. The first choice is to sync a deployed DB.

In the wizard, add the deployed SQL server you want to sync and the deployed Classic folders DB you want to sync. Then the new files will be added and created, existing files will be modified.

Re: [WD19] HFSQL C/S: Can't add new files to the server.

Hi Curtis

***It's not an issue***

it is perfectly normal that when you design a file in the analysis, it is not created on disk.

The analysis has no way of knowing IF and WHERE you would like this file, and of what type it should be as a hchangeconnexion, hchangedir and so on can change all that at run time... By example, I always design my files as HF Classic, but 99% of the time, they are HF C/S at run time... I'm happy that the analysis is not creating a bunch of unused empty files for nothing.

So, a file is physically created on disk when you do a hcreation, a hcreationifnotfound, or the first time it is used in your code/windows if you have checked that option in the project option

The synchronization of files/analysis will modify existing files when you change the analysis, but will never create any That is not its job.

Best regards

Re: [WD19] HFSQL C/S: Can't add new files to the server.

Hi Fabrice,

You are right. Our application always created the files on demand, never through the sync wizard. (In fact it makes couple years I never used the sync wiz since our framework does it all. I have a very bad memory.)
