[WD21] WDSetup

Startbeitrag von David Egan am 03.08.2016 03:47

Hi
We have been using WDSetup with reference & client setup for several years without any problems but it seems to be broken in WD21. The reference install works perfectly but when we try to install a new client or update an existing client from the reference it seems to get in a loop at the point where it needs to load the framework. You can get out of it (it warns you that the install has not completed) so it has not completely locked up. You can then manually copy the framework files in & the app then works. Not ideal for sending out to several hundred clients though!

Has anyone else experienced this? I've forwarded it to PCSoft to see if they have any ideas. I'm sure it's not permissions related as earlier versions can install without a problem and we've tried running it as an administrator with the same result.

Cheers

David

Hi David,

I have come across this same issue too.

In the setup creation process, on step 1/2 of the Framework (Integration mode of WinDev Framwork) there is an option to use 'Options kept for compatibility'. I selected the first option here and my reference and install worked fine.

Hope this helps

Thanks,
Ned!

Thanks Ned
I saw that but it looked like it was greyed out so I didn't try it.

I have now tried it & it almost works! The screen looks like it's stuck at the same point but if I crash out of the update it has actually updated the app. Unfortunately still not practical to release it:-( & I'm still waiting on a response from PCS

Hi David,

I have also found that using the 7z option at teh final stage of building the setup causes a loop during upgrade (requesting to download the framework). If I use the Zip option it works fine.

Thanks
Ned!

Hi David,

We use it with no problems with 7z. The problem is that a framework file is missing in the basic packaging. We use a personalized WDSETUP that requires mode dll. So in we already instructed WDINST to package some additional dll of the framework. It works without problems.

So one thing you can do to fix this problem is to figure out the missing framework file and use WDINST to modify your WDF to include the missing dll from the framework. (Instead of copying all the framework, just put one dl at the time until it works. Then try only with the last one you added.) You can also notify PC Soft, maybe they already know about that and can tell you what is missing.

On our side it works well, but as I say, we already have some additional files.

Here is the list we have:
C:\PCSoft\WinDev 21\Programmes\Framework\Win32x86\WD210STD.DLL

Thanks guys
I'll give it another bash. I've reported it to PCS who advised they "weren't able to reproduce the difficulty you encountered". Funny that, especially as I'm obviously not the only one who has had issues with it.

I've started looking at alternate installers and I think longer term that's what I will do but it's a bit of work I could do without at the moment.

Cheers

David
