[WD21] FullText_Index is unreliable?

Startbeitrag von Ola am 16.12.2016 12:36

Hi all,

I have problems trying to get reliable results from searching a FullText_index. For instance, I have a full text index on my contact file, and it includes most of the string fields of the file, including the street address. There are 24 fields total in this FullText_Index, three of which are memo type fields.

However, when I search for a string I know does exist in a lot of street addresses (String of 35 chars, is also a key with duplicates), I may get only a few results or none at all.

Are there any special tricks/hints to make it work reliably?

Best regards
Ola

Hi Ola,

I don't know if it is reliable or not, but it's clearly not powerfull enough for my needs... So I wrote my own, and it is available in the my open source project WXEDM, where it is used to index the content of all files imported in the document database (this version includes a "fuzzy" search option is several languages).

Best regards

Hi Ola,

We are using them for years without problems. Although we go at maximum 6 fields i guess. Maybe :
* ftx file is corrupted?
* you are using some 'unreadable' characters in strings?
* case sensitive, accent sensitive etc?
* did you already try to create the FTX on 1 field to see if the results are better?

Kind regards,

Joris.

Ola.

We are using them on multi gigabyte file, 6 or 7 string fields, and it works very well for us. Users can use various search functions provided by WinDev and they seem to work fine.

Are you searching for a single string e.g. "apple" or a more complex combination of strings?

Also, perhaps reindex the search index in case of corruption etc.
