Any reported fixes in Report Designer with ver 22

Startbeitrag von joe crevino am 01.05.2017 00:33

Has anyone seen any mention of Report Designer fixes ???

Antworten:

Good question!

Today I tried to make a new report in WD21 by first "saving as" an old report and then doing a couple of changes and an addition of a new column to the new report. The end result was a total chaos! I had to build the new report from scratch! A "five minute" job turned out to be a hour+ job!

The WD report designer is a lethal joke; I always almost kill myself first laughing and then crying, when trying to use it!

It should be fixed in WD21 and not in WD22!!!!!

Best regards
Ola

Today I (agaín) tried to make a new report in WD21 by first "saving as" an old report and then adding a couple of check box columns to it, at the end of the body block. No changes to any currency or numerical columns. By me, that is. First everything seemed to go OK, but then I suddenly noticed that the End of Document block has exploded in height to over 3 meters! After fixing that, I noticed that PCSoft had decided to change one of the currency columns to a check box column.

Now who am I to say that PCSoft is wrong in their endless efforts to improve my reports? Surely they are highly responsible world class top quality programmers and designers, who know what they are doing...

And again the end result was a total chaos! The new check box column could not be changed back to a currency column. I had to build the new report from scratch! A "five minute" quick job turned out to be a several hours major labor! There are so many problems in the report designer, that PCSoft should be sued for selling it!

And now they are again trying to pull my leg selling me an "upgrade" at 500 euros, without any guarantee that this, or any other of their world class bugs have been fixed!

Best regards
Ola

P.S. Did you notice how I managed not to use any dirty words:(

Hi Ola,

I think you're mellowing with age ;)

Well, yeah, I've run out of swearwords with Windev and can't jump high enough anymore...:hot:

We have an old (some say might say it's a "mock") Latin phrase:

Illegitimi non carborundum

...but there's a message in there somewhere; I'll leave you to Google it? ;)

Hi,

While it's always necessary to create some traditional print reports I did migrate the majority of our system's reports to a display in a windev table and then allow user to export to excel using "tabletoexcel". What I did was create a window with list menu on the side listing the available reports and then change the plane of the window depending on which menu item you select. This let's me enter custom parameters for each report and then call a local procedure specific to each report to fill table.

I know this doesn't solve the issue of windev report writer being wonky, but it's what I did to mitigate the madness where I could.

Users love it too.

Hello Steven,

Is the table option giving you enough ways to arrive totals, a bit of complex formula, for a column ?

Hello,

I developed all this before the "spreadsheet" control so at this point no, I'm doing all that manually. Just a guess but that sounds like it would maybe be possible with the spreadsheet control
