[WB22] complete mess

Startbeitrag von Piet van Zanten am 07.07.2017 10:19

My initial optimism after upgrading to WB22 has dropped to far below zero.
It's officially a complete mess.
The beta version was ok, but the final version has gone berserk.
The worst bug: controls on popups cannot be handled normally anymore. They jump out of the viewport to position 2234 or so on almost every move or align action. Resizing the popup on a blade makes ALL controls on a popup disappear.
Then they can only be retrieved one by one by using the statusbar.
I saw this issue being reported on the French forum too.

Also the planes seem to make the editor complain and move controls based on alleged responsive errors. A cell on a different plane can make the editor stagger about (and act upon) a conflict with a different plane. e.g. a cell will not anchor to the center anymore. When tested, the page acts as it should.

I have reported several other severe issues too, all forwarded to the developpers.

Kind regards,

Hi Piet
Tell your pain spent 5 hrs trying to get a simple 1 page HTML to display correctly.
It was simple made 3 zones header , body and footer I had a title simple text static control and a quote static control in the header. In the body 2 cells with text and 1 link in the footer.
5 hrs they would shoe perfect in test mode but when deployed a complete mess everything grew with no anchors applied header shifted to left body centered cells on top of each other.

The fix at 2:30 am was to set all controls to overlap and set all zones and cells to fixed. This does not making a simple static site even possible could done this in any other tool in five minutes.

Now on the other hand I made a dynamic web application that layouts work very well

Do not use Zones !! it has always been a pain, still is . And It is not necessary.
use cells to layout the sections
Want consistency use a template.

Responsiveness is a bit of a challenge but that is because everything can be set differently so You have to be consistent .  Make a template and work from that

Do not use description GUI use the anchor features form the righclickmenu

Over all WB22 for me lets me worry about the logic and webdev about the rest. That is after I lurned myself quite a view tricks but that is just how it works.
There could be more and better code examples. For instance about using the third party javascript frameworks. How do I get Json form browser to serverside The use of Jsontovarriant and varriant toJson etc.. in a "real" example setting

In short How to use the three tier stuff in this kind of setting. This is very interesting and is costing me way to mutch time to figger out

For me WB22 is great but there are some odd strange things happening that do shut down the whole app. Some Vtable message pops up now and then and when it does nothing works anymore, complete shutdown of the app. I have to restart the app and all works again.

Hi Allard,

First of all: I managed to get a complex webshop site fully responsive in WB21 and on the way learned many tricks to handle all the quirks.
If I had time I could write a book about it.
Based on the (absence of) answers to many of my posts on this topic I'm afraid I'm one of the few people on this forum that fully exploit the responsive mode.
So it's probably of not much use to post on responsive issues, but I had to get it off my chest :D

Kind regards,

Hi Dennis,

Allard is right: don't use zones.
And don't remember why anymore, but in reponsive mode I never use overlay.
In any case: never mix overlayed and non overlayed controls in responsive mode.

Kind regards,

Hi Piet,

You might be right on that. View people using it. I have made some col things with it succesfull as well. In my big SAAS app though I only partially use the responsive features. It is my personal opinion that it sometimes doesnot suit for certain web apps.

Espacially when you want to keep a kind of "windows desktop kind of screens" in place .

For those parts I then make an app .

Very similar issue here.

I don't know too much about these layouts. I was quite happy to not know too much as the zones all worked quite well in Version 19 without knowing too much. That's why I'm using WebDev!

Now, I cannot add 1 simple field without everything stuffing up, and I don't have 5 hours to waste.

Not happy if I have to redesign a page because the framework has changed.

Today I started a simple dynamic non responsive page that worked fine in WB21 and the layout is completely messed up when running.
I'm trying all sorts of combinations of overlaid or not, different anchoring, but nothing works, controls are all over the page when testing.
Even a completely static layout (everything overlaid and no anchoring at all) won't work.
What a waste of time!
I'll try to go back to 21 on this project.

Kind regards,

The solution was to copy paste everything to a new page.

Hello Piet,
Just my point simple html static page took me 5 hrs something I could do in dream weaver in about 5 minutes.

I did a web application for my customer database went really well in v21 when upgraded to v22 had to create new pages and copy things over 1 at a time.
