Is it adviseable to...

Startbeitrag von Yogi Yang am 22.11.2017 03:49

Hello,

I am getting an opportunity to purchase an old version of WB (version 20) for $460.

Is it advise to spend this amount...???

Those who are actually using or have used WB20 would advise to go for this bargain?

My primary interest in purchasing WB is for building web apps in PHP.

WB experts please do guide me here.

TIA

Hi, that's quite fine as long as you're planning NOT to upgrade anymore.
But: you're stuck with old version 20 then.

Upgrading WB20 to WB22 from now on until April/May 2018 is 881,- US$ or 790,- Euro.

A brand new WB23 will be 1104,- US$ / 990,- Euro and you can get it as soon as WB23/French is out which will be in early December. You'd get WB22/French, and you can use WB22/US until April/May 2018 whenever WB23/US is out which you can use until December 2018. A drawback would be that you'd have to upgrade with the French version each December. So, you could get/use the newest versions v22 and v23 until April/May 2019 for a single price. We can do that for you with a small 5% discount too.

Hi

while using an old version of WINDEV is generally fine, I strongly advise against it for WebDev and WinDev Mobile, as the browsers and mobile OS are evolving extremely fast and you therefore WILL get incompatibility problems if using an older version of our tools who doesn't know them.

Futhermore, I also advise against using the PHP modus for WebDev, as that creates lots of limitations and problems. And as a webdev+HF hosting starts at 5€/month, it's really NOT worth it.

Best regards

Fabrice, may be you are right but I have been using Free Hosting for many PHP solutions for quite some time now I fee 5€/month which will amount to 60€/year is way too much when compared to Free.

My preferred free hosting provider is: https://www.awardspace.com/free-hosting/
and second one is: https://www.freehosting.com/

Of course there is a general belief that what is free is not worth its while in this community but still free is what clicks always!!

Yes I know that there is no upgrade route with WB20, but personally I am a bit skeptic when it comes to WebDev (as I have been seeing so many WX veterans complaining about it frequently).

Actually I have still to understand as to how it will speed up development and what are its quirks. This will allow me to gauge as to what kind of web app/sites I can develop in WB and where WB is a no go.

If I buy this then the first thing that I will do is, to start developing our on going project (which is in PHP with LARVAL) parallel in WB to see how things come up and where I get practically held up in WB.

One last thing. Are there any possibilities of being able to host WB created web apps on Google Cloud Servers?

TIA

Hi Yogi,

there are so many of our customers who don't have any big problems with WB - only a few are showing up with a problem every now and then. But one thing's for sure: there's no PC Soft support for older versions! In general, you have to rely on this forum if something's not working your way.

Personally, I don't have any experience with WB since the rather small things we need on the web are easily done using PHP by my son. He does the mobile apps for Android & Apple using WM22 too. Actually, for big Apps we prefer Win10-Tablets and WINDEV 22.

I doubt that you can host a WB application on Google's Cloud servers. What you need is the installation of the WEBDEV Application Server in order to run a WB application at all. For that, you'll need root access to a Windows or Linux server for installing it.

Well, if, in order to save 60$, you are ready to WASTE THOUSANDS of dollars in wasted time in your development, in other words, if your time is free, then by all means, you are right...

In any other case, I will classify that sentence in the category of the 'very bad good ideas'.

Best regards
