Positive note on PCSoft advertising

Startbeitrag von Donald Montaine am 07.02.2018 14:48

At least in their current French language brochure for WX 23

http://www.pcsoft-windev-webdev.com/brochureWD23.pdf

it seems that even PCSoft is reacting to the current #MeTo and #TimesUp movements.

While they still have a lot of pictures of women, they mostly seem to be of women dressed in casual or business casual dress and not the previous provocative clothes or poses. And they even intersperse some pictures of men as well.

All in all, while I wouldn't give it a 100% business appropriate rating, it has improved from near zero to perhaps the mid-eighties.

"Bravo PCSoft" for finally making some progress in this area.

Yeah, it took until page 5 before seeing a bathing suit.

Whats the world coming too when you can't see blatant sexism in an advertisement until page 5... :D

Yep, but those were very small pictures of a web site advertising bathing suits. A lot better than previous large pictures on almost every page of women in seductive and/or provocative poses.

At least in some companies in the US, the display of the former WinDev advertising could have been construed as creating a hostile work place.

Personally I would prefer that they focus on workplace photos of people doing work using PCSoft products or given their love of cycling, just using pictures from the Tour de France.

But this is at least a step forward in realizing that they are a global firm needing to be conscious and respectful on cultural differences.

While I never agreed with some that argued that the past advertising was "soft p*rn", it was certainly not a wise business practice in the globalized world of today.

Question. Beside this, is it worth to upgrade from wx22 to wx23?

Thx in advance for any tips.

I once had an opportunity to introduce WinDev years ago to a large company. Demo'd it to a couple of folks but was warned by them that I shouldn't because of the advertising. The company was VERY politically correct. You couldn't say the word dyke without being called into HR... even if the reference was Dykes on Trykes, a Seattle motortrike club that participates in parades.
Too bad, having Deloitte and Touche's Partner compensation program written in Wx rather than Clarion would have been big.

What!?! You mean a PROFESSIONAL brochure, like other companies? Shirley you jest... this is PCSoft!

Fabrice did a write up a few months ago on the new stuff in 23, did you see that? He seemed to be excited about a few things...

Yes found it thx Art, will you get an upgrade it as well.

For me, looks like it as I can deploy pdfReader for my clients and wpx is getting mature.
at least a workable word processor with ribbon similar to m/s word.

Thx also Fabrice for the translation.

Cheers

Sad to still see many pictures of women in the brochures.. I have counted 57 images of women in 47 pages of the brochure...., semi-nude, girls with their legs wide open, girls in swimsuit, girls wearing party dresses, girls in short dresses showing their legs again.., girls with soaked skin and also girls in suit to be fair. Big pictures, small pictures, pictures in the background... Here are some examples of the girls: https://imgur.com/vup118Y.
Curious.. I have counted only 2 pictures of men in the whole brochure.

Really? it is necesary to add those pictures in a brochure which is mean to be used to sell a programming tool? is not a car! it is not clothing, or makeup, or summer holidays!!! it is a "programming tool" !! right? What it is really the purpose then? Which kind of public are they trying to target? I guess it is mostly done to convince "men" programmers to buy their products or to showup the new functionalities ... but is it really necessary? does the programmers (the old one and the newcomers) attracted to PC soft products because of the sexy girls in the brochures??? really?

I do not want to compare... but can anybody find any brochure from any programming or software development tool including so many women in different disgusting poses used as a resource to sell this kind of products?

I have colleages who ask me why they continue using this kind of design for their product brochures... do not have a real and logic answer to be honest. Some people told me it is because they are "french", which I do not think it is a good answer.. do not think all french people can be consider like this.

Sorry, do no want to spoil your excitament about the news in the brochure but I guess maybe we can think about the whole content... not only the text but the whole design and the pictures used on it. Just a humble opinion.

These images are used to make the brochure length so the when a reader sees the number of pages he/she will feel like getting a Rolls Royce as an update instead of a sedan car ;)

I think a compromise is best. I too would like to see some cycling-related pictures in the WX brochure, instead of these non-sporting hungry looking ladies, like a sporty female cyclist arriving as the winner at the Tour de France finnish line, not hands up like winning men do (which really is very dangerous!), but hands firmly on the steering bar, preferably dressed in a topless swimming suit...:-))

Then I would immediately upgrade from 21 to 23.
