Manta.exe doing 12,000 reads per second?? What are those reads?

Startbeitrag von dan matis am 24.11.2010 02:55

My ISP sent me the following message in reference to my server, running my webdev application and performing very slowly ...

To address your Manta.exe issue, it seems as if Manta.exe is doing at least 12,000 reads per second. Which means a couple of things.

1. You have a lot of users doing lots of queries (based on what you have stated about 1200 part searches per day this option does not seem to apply)
2. The queries that are being executed against the database needs to be optimized. Since you are running ETL queries, please look at how your queries are setup. If you are using SQL Server, you can analyze your queries using SQL Server Profiler.

If you are concerned about the speed of your hard drive, you can opt to upgrade to a server with Raid-1 array. This will enable you to get more I/O Reads. As I am typing here, your I/O Reads have jumped from roughly 860,000,000 to about 863,000,000. That is a lot. I would definitely look into the efficiency of the queries. Please let us know if we can be of any more assistance.

Hi Dan,

Perhaps you can increase Manta's cache.
That would probably decrease the number of reads.
(Controlcenter, configuration, caches)
To view operations you can switch on the logs.

You could turn on the log-options of the hfcs. And analyze those results.
