more maps!

Startbeitrag von JACKAL am 21.03.2002 09:47

Hi, dear frags :=)

Just asking to add more maps because of simple reason.
How cool some currently presented on server maps are,
there is anyway a sense of bore when playing the same
map sequence of 3-4 maps. Just boring.

In fact, almost every standard map in Q3A is quite OK
for team size of 2 to 6 men.
Except tourney maps, which are for duel mode.

So why not to add more at least standard maps to rotation?
That would bring new spice to game!
As by now, every evening I play on I.N.G.E.R.z I tuned
for really routine hammering on way too familiar maze.

Really really really we need some new maps.
Not neceserilly BRAND new, but just at least different
maps from standard Q3A levels. Pllllleazze.

hi thx for your comment,

anyway...its a bit more complicated then you think. To change only a single map is a "heavy disaster" for many players.
I tried dm8, dm15, cpm4 ect. but the fact is, that most players want the "standard-maps" we have in our circle.
Its always my intention to bring new maps into the circle (like i did with cpm2).
The only way to satisfy most players is to add "one" map to the circle we "run" at the moment.

If you find a good map for 8-12 Players you can always tell me.
I tested about 100 maps and recognized that its not that simple...

i like some of the "OSP 1.0" maps but they're only running with osp-mod.

suggest some maps i'll test them.

Thx and HF

Sorry, but WHY?

You probably mean in THEIR circle, eh? :)
Because "what's good for russian is deadly for french" - the proverb.
For instance, I personally hate one of the maps that currently is in rotation.
And since rotation circle holds 5 maps, the one single map makes 20%
of time that I usually spectate instead of play...

In fact, that's not necesserilly accurate, to say that majority of the time
I.N.G.E.R.z server houses 8-12 players.
That's possible to calculate average load by stats, but however.

I'd propose bring up more maps from standard quake 3 arena.
Unfortunately I can't tell exact map names by now, but that's not so important.
Just pick up some cool maps with sufficient player capacity.
There will be no problems, because everyone played those maps and there will be
no big surprise for newcomers or server visitors. No need to dload them...

See, we even don't have even single space map!
And space maps are one of the Q3A feature that really makes Q3A atmosphere.

A littlle comment to your words. 8-12 players.
For me it seems like maps "japan" and map "with read armor under water" are too small for combats more busy than 3x3 people.
Japan map makes combat unfair if teams are not balanced and becomes a too busy place for more players than 6.
Map with red armor under water is _really_ too small for more than 2x2 players.
There on that map all the time packs of players blindly toss rockets near round corner with armor shards. And too often people becomes frozen right at respawn points.

I just wondering if we could play on one of standard CTF levels: they are big enough and designed to play in team mode, and second, respawn points are located on team's zones, so there would be much less jammed respawns.

How do you think?

Hi, Jackal, nice to have you around.
Well, I've tried to instill server life around here with a little dredwerkz session, but I failed miserably. You have to hit the taste of some people better than others, especially those who change the maps ;) :D
I personally liked q3dm13, but that has gone the way of all mortal, as well as dm15 and dm10, which were both fun to play imho.
Of the maps currently in cicle, I'd say that the only one that should be taken out is Japandm, since the whole map impedes movement, and most of the time you feel like playing unreal tournament, but not quake3 ;)
I'd also say that 1 overkill per cicle would be ok, but at least i tend to play some high-frag-count games there.
To speak on behalf of the other maps, I'd say dm6 deserves the spots it has, since it's THE map, and everybody knows it in and out. Never have someone complaining about the map if they lose ;), well, xcept scorpio :D
Well, "grim dungeons" and "temple of retribution" play well enough to be a keeper, imo, and I'm quite sure that this won't change in the next time.
Maybe we could install a double cicle, that leaves 1 overkill and cpm2 out and adds one of the previously taken out maps on the second run:

Thx for contributing Jackal :)

Hi, fellow!

Last night me and The Senior Frag (Kasti :) tried to play some new maps.
Well, space map was not quite ok, because it is too open and too many teleports are there.
But second CTF map was quite fun and O.K. to play even 2x2 athough it wll fit 6x6 as well. I still think that it would be good to bring some standard CTF maps because they are good for teamplay and some of them really fit freeze mode and grapple hook. Unfortunately I can't say map names right now.
